Out on the water, the sun reflects and it’s easy to forget how strong it can be
Edmond
Photographer
I grew up in the fast-paced, vibrant streets of Hong Kong, always surrounded by people, food, and energy. Moving to Manchester was a big change, but a welcome one. It gave me a slower pace and more space to connect with nature.
As a photographer, I’ve always been drawn to capturing moments, especially in nature. Photography lets me slow down and really see things, whether it’s a quiet sunrise or my son laughing in the park.
Everything shifts when you become a parent. I still love being outdoors, but now I plan around my son’s comfort and safety. I’m more conscious of things like hydration, shade, and of course, sun protection. We always pack sunscreen before toys!
My son already knows how important sunscreen is. We make applying it a routine, just like brushing teeth. He even reminds me sometimes!
Fishing is how I reset. It’s peaceful and always gives me something to look forward to
My passion for fishing started with my grandfather back in Hong Kong. He’d take me to the harbour early in the morning, those quiet hours stuck with me.
Okinawa in Japan is special to me. The water is crystal clear, the fish are vibrant, and the locals are kind. I remember one sunset trip where I caught a huge red grouper. That was unforgettable.
I don't get to go fishing in the UK as often as I’d like, but I make it work! A few weekends a month, I head out to local lakes or coastal spots. It’s different from back home, but still just as rewarding.
Sunscreen is non-negotiable
When you’re out on the water, the sun reflects off the surface and it’s easy to forget how strong it can be.
In my 20s, I ignored sun protection completely. Now, I cleanse daily and never skip SPF. I use products that work with my skin even when I sweat or get wet, which is why I love the Calypso range.
The Calypso Once a Day SPF50 is my favourite. It’s long-lasting and gives me peace of mind when I’m out for hours without reapplying constantly.
Once A Day SPF50+
My favourite beach has got to be Yonaha Maehama Beach in Okinawa. It’s pure paradise.
I’d love to go to the Bay of Islands in New Zealand. That’s next on my fishing bucket list.
