Wearing sunscreen protects your skin from sunburn, limits the appearance of sunspots, reduces the signs of ageing, and most importantly, reduces the risk of skin cancer. Many of us are keen on wearing sunscreen in the summer months, but the fact of the matter is that you should wear sunscreen every day, whether it's sunny or cloudy. The clouds do not block the ultraviolet rays of the sun, so even when the sun isn't visible, you are still exposed to these harmful rays. In today's blog post, we'll be looking at the importance of wearing sun protection for everyday use, how to apply sunscreen and what type of SPF you should buy.
Why should you wear sunscreen daily?
Like we mentioned earlier, UV radiation penetrates through clouds, which means that you're constantly exposed to ultraviolet rays every time you're outside. Failure to wear sunscreen leaves you exposed to both UVB and UVA rays. UVB rays are responsible for causing sunburn, and their effects aren't as visible during the colder months. UVA rays, on the other hand, penetrate deeper into the skin, causing premature ageing and skin cancers, including the deadly malignant melanoma.
Does makeup with SPF work?
Some beauty products, such as foundations and skin tints, have SPF in them, but that is not enough to protect your skin from UV radiation. You must use an independent SPF product under your makeup to get maximum coverage and protection. Ensure that your sunscreen has broad-spectrum protection to protect you against both UVA and UVB rays. It should also have a sun protection factor (SPF) of 30 or higher.
How to wear sunscreen under your makeup?
Clean skin is able to absorb sunscreen more efficiently. So, before applying your sunscreen, make sure you cleanse, tone, and moisturise your skin. Once your skin is well moisturised, apply a generous amount of sunscreen to your face and neck. UV rays are very damaging to the skin on your neck, and unfortunately, this skin isn't able to rejuvenate the same way the face does. Lastly, moisturise your lips with a hydrating sunblock lip balm. Our Calypso's Lip Balm Sun Protection SPF 30 contains beeswax and shea butter which protect and hydrate your lips in the blistering heat of summer and in the freezing chills of winter, making it an essential for daily sun protection.
Can I wear sunscreen if I have sensitive skin?
You need to wear sunscreen every day, regardless of your skin type. That said, if your skin is prone to dryness, redness, and stings when using skincare products, finding a non-irritating sunscreen can be a challenge. Here at Calypso, we understand the struggle of finding a good sunscreen for sensitive skin, which is why we created Sensitive Lotion for Face and Neck SPF 50. It is specially formulated with soothing and nourishing ingredients that calm the skin while protecting it from harmful UV.
