How Many Bottles of Sunscreen Do I Need to Pack?

Share

2 min read.

There’s only a month to go to Easter, and many British people will be taking advantage of the bank holiday and jetting off to warmer climates for a much-needed break from the wet and windy UK weather. Those who were wise to 2019’s bank holiday calendar will have an extra long getaway break to look forward to, as booking eight days of annual leave will give a total of sixteen days off work from the 13th – 28th April.

However, you will need to be prepared for the hot Mediterranean climates by packing lots of sunscreen. It’s hard to anticipate how much you’ll need on your holiday, but by following our advice, you can ensure you have more than enough to ensure your skin is adequately protected.

Packing for a long holiday
If you’re one of the lucky ones taking two weeks off work over Easter, then you’ll need to ensure you have enough space in your suitcase for a few bottles of sunscreen. We recommend using an SPF30 product or higher at the beginning of your holiday and applying a sufficient amount of sunscreen; about 35ml for an adult to ensure you cover your entire body. With an average 200ml sunscreen you are required to apply it frequently (at least three times a day) so it will only last you 1.9 days.

Alternatively, if you want to save time and valuable luggage space, you could opt for one of our Once a Day sunscreens, which you would only need to apply once for all-day protection. Since you are only required to use it once per day, a 200ml bottle of Once a Day will last up to 5.7 days, meaning that you’ll just need to pack three bottles for your two-week holiday.

Packing for a weekend getaway
Most people try to pack as light as possible for a weekend getaway due to the carry-on luggage restrictions on many budget airlines. If you’re only able to take a handbag and 10kg suitcase with you, then it’s best to pack the travel-size 100ml bottles. Our travel pack comes in a handy travel bag and contains 100ml bottles of our Press and Protect SPF15 and SPF20, as well as our Aloe Vera After Sun Gel. We also have 35ml Once a Day sachets which are enough to cover your whole body and fit perfectly in your handbag.

Make sun safety a top priority
We are all guilty of packing too many things for a trip at some point in our lives, but when it comes to sunscreen, it’s always better to pack more than you think you’ll need. You can’t anticipate how much time you’ll spend outdoors on your holiday, so you should always carry a bottle of sunscreen in your handbag. You should also remember to apply a sufficient amount of it and make sure you cover your entire body, particularly on the easily forgotten areas. They are usually behind your neck, your ears and the top of your feet.
